Which one is mandatory: FT5 or FT6?

For your information, here is what the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) confirms with regard to the mandatory use of the FT6 cable, if one or more of the following conditions apply:

  • the building is not combustible
  • the cable has been wired horizontally in the plenum
  • there is no nonflammable pipe being used for wiring
RBQ regulation mandates the use of the FT6 cable. When conditions differ from the ones previously cited, the National Building Code standards apply.
