UPDATE - Toronto Alarm Response Rate Increase

Janury 29, 2010 - As communicated earlier this week, the Canadian Security Association (CANASA) had confirmed that the rates for false dispatches in the City of Toronto will be raised to $130 from $83.50. At that time there was a tentative effective date of February 1, 2010 to the fee increase. On January 26, CANASA received notification from the Toronto Police Services Board (TPSB) confirming this date. CANASA formally requested that the TPSB grant a 30 day extension to the effective date which would allow for proper dissemination of this information to the industry. Upon review of this request, TPSB Chair, Dr. Alok Mukherjee requested that CANASA’s Executive Director, Jean-Francois Champagne, be added to the agenda for a meeting of the Board held on January 28.

During this meeting, Mr. Champagne made the same request personally to the entire TPSB, engaging in discussions as the unified voice of the security industry. Upon deliberation, the TPSB made the decision to move ahead with the February 1, 2010 effective date for the fee increase.

The TPSB will now consider any oral or written comments at its meeting on:
Thursday, February 18, 2010
11:30 a.m.
Toronto Police Headquarters
40 College Street, Toronto

Anyone wishing to deliver an oral submission should contact Ms. Deirdre Williams, Board Administrator, at (416) 808-8094 by 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 to confirm their attendance. Written submissions can be sent to Ms. Williams by fax at (416) 808-8082 or email
deirdre.williams@tpsb.ca.

CANASA will attend the February 18 meeting on behalf of its members in an effort to solidify a better partnership with the TPSB and to represent the industry as a whole.
