Alarm Technician Courses
Alarm Technician Prerequisite
This self-study course covers very basic elements necessary to qualify for ATC 1. Curriculum includes an introduction to the alarm industry, basic math (i.e. fractions, decimal counting etc.), electronics (voltage, current, circuits, resistance, power, transformers, power supplies, batteries etc.), standards (ULC products, listed companies, standards and guidelines, CANASA installation guidelines) and safety (basic equipment, clothing, tools, vehicle safety, job planning and clean up).The intent of the Pre-requisite course is to assess the basic background material for successful completion of the ATC Level 1 Certification. Alarm Technician Course Level One (ATC1)
This course is ideal for all alarm installers currently active in the industry. The participant should have programming knowledge of any control panel type, and installed independently at least one system. The Level One curriculum includes preparation for installation, practical metering, input devices, installation tips, detection systems, control devices, field wiring, outputs, communications, and system design as it relates to low to medium risk occupancies. The course provides an overview of the industry with a focus to reduction of false alarms, providing a minimum standard for installation, improving efficiency and quality through knowledge and standard practices. The delivery is comprised of two days of instruction followed by an in-class exam or in a self-study CD-ROM format with a scheduled supervised exam. See details
Alarm Technician Course Level Two (ATC2)
This course is geared towards an intermediate to advanced level of knowledge. The Level two curriculum includes advanced control panels, wireless, and inputs with coverage of specialty and outdoor protection methods, outputs including RS-232, communications including DVAC, radio, cellular, pagers, internet, and high speed dialer communications, system design, and troubleshooting as related to the high risk and specialty occupancies. Students must have successfully completed the ATC Level 1 Certification in order to complete the ATC Level 2 Certification Testing. See details
Advanced Control Panel Features Course
This self-study course is the first module of the Alarm Technician Course Level Two program (ATC2). This course is ideal to newcomers to the industry or those with years of experience and includes information on wiring supervision, outputs and power supply, control panel features and SIA CP-01 / ULC-S302 standards. Wireless Components Course
This self-study course is the second module of the Alarm Technician Course Level Two program (ATC2). This course is ideal to newcomers to the industry or those with years of experience and includes information on the basic theories of wireless communication, RF technologies used in the security industry, wireless components and applications, battery technology and installation and troubleshooting of wireless components.
