 Description

We are currently looking for a Security Systems Designer to join our team. The chosen candidate may work from any of our office locations (Kingston, Montreal, Ottawa or Toronto).

The Security Systems Designer is responsible for designing customized technology solutions for our potential customers by contributing to the development of repeatable and scalable systems and security solutions.

The incumbent will collaborate with Project Managers and Business Development Account Managers on the physical security design of CCTV, video surveillance, card access systems, access control, duress alarms, intercoms, door locking and hardware systems, intrusion detection, perimeter security, security screening and control room ergonomics, etc. to ensure that designs meet client requirements in order to secure the sale.

The Security Systems Designer must have a solid understanding of the industry and related solutions and equipment in order to be able to determine system content and customer needs based on scope of work.


 Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop basic system security designs
  • Prepare drawings and specifications for security systems using design software
  • Write design briefs and Outline specifications independently for any security system project type
  • Layout security devices on drawings
  • Provide solutions to general technical problems
  • Meet with potential clients to ascertain design guidelines
  • Assist the sales team and attend potential client meetings and provide design concepts
  • Work in conjunction with internal stakeholders to prepare project deliverables per the client’s intent and scope of work and review prior to submission
  • Assist project managers by providing input to the completion of tasks within the project timeline and budget
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of and understanding of all ComNet service offerings and future technology development
  • Ensure utilization goals are met or exceeded and project budgets are adhered to
  • Identify and report potential roadblocks and competing client and co-worker priorities that may inhibit the ability to maintain the project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Collaborate with all internal employees, external design partners and clients to obtain required information, discuss options, and develop solutions
  • Collect customer requirements through meetings or documentation
  • Assist project management with scheduling, scope development, and proposal development
  • Check drawings for quality control
  • Adhere to quality management processes
  • Comply with company Design Standards and CAD Standards
  • Create working drawings with AutoCAD or mark-up drawings
  • Design Systems in accordance with relevant Codes and Standards
  • Maintain design files in an organized and up-to-date fashion in accordance with company Project Management Standards
  • Perform site audits to confirm existing conditions
  • Provide periodic site reviews and attend site meetings as required
  • Keep up-to-date on all aspects of Security systems, products and trends including attending local trade shows, seminars, workshops, meetings and independent study

 

 Qualifications

Education, Certification and Technical Requirements:

  • Minimum of a College Diploma from a Building Technology program or equivalent. A combination of education and experience with the proven ability to perform the job tasks may be accepted.
  • Minimum 5 years related industry experience
  • Strong computer skills, e.g. MS Office Suite
  • Technical Certifications: AMAG, GENETEC Advanced, LENEL Master Certified (have or able to obtain)
  • Experience with design tools such as BlueBeam Revu, AutoCAD, and Visio. - must have hands on experience in design software
  • Experience with CadCam, SmartSheet, ServiCentre or similar software
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit or similar software
  • Knowledge of multiple IP-based video and access control systems and manufacturers
  • Knowledge of industry regulations and best practices, e.g. building codes
  • Knowledge of commonly used and accepted design and construction concepts, practices, procedures
  • Must be able to read floor plans and basic understanding of Low voltage, Electrical, Conduit fill, door hardware, and a basic understanding of access control, video management systems, as well as a basic understanding of networking and IT

  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents and specifications, datasheets, technical procedures and government regulations with the ability to follow manufacturers requirements in order to provide a solution based on the customers requirements

  • Able to perform basic Security systems site surveys and audits, including providing written reports

Other Requirements:

  • Bilingual French/English
  • Valid driver’s licence with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Hold or be able to obtain a Secret security clearance
  • Some travel may be required
