Marriott Breach Affects Canadians

Marriott International has confirmed that Starwood-branded properties in Canada are potentially affected by a recent security breach. The company operates 77 former Starwood-branded hotels in Canada.

Marriott International claims that hackers have stolen credit card and passport numbers as well as personal data for up to 500 million guests over a 4 year period.

The massive data breach is one of the largest on record. Security experts are concerned about how long it took Marriott to detect and report on the breach which was first detected September 8, 2018.

Marriott reported that they have set up a website and call centre for those customers who feel they may be at risk. The company will also be making contact via email with those affected.
