Mission Statement

At the heart of our endeavor lies a steadfast commitment: to empower exceptional individuals and families dedicated to enhancing the safety and security of our communities through the provision of impactful financial support for educational pursuits. Our mission is a testament to the belief that investing in the education of those who contribute to the well-being of society fosters a brighter, safer future for us all.

Six (6) $2,500 scholarships are available. Scholarships will be awarded based on the following criteria.

Total Scholarship program of $15,000; with a maximum of six (6) $2,500 scholarships; projected awards are as follows. Applicants do not need to be accepted into a program yet to apply. Funds will be distributed upon receipt of program acceptance.

  • 4 x $2500 Scholarships open to CANASA members as well as dependents of CANASA members and those of First Responders.
  • 2 x $2500 for students enrolled in an accredited post-secondary security or policing program in Canada. Awarding of scholarship to be based on merit of applicant.

Rules

  • Funds will be paid directly to the winner.
  • Submissions will be disqualified if all documentation is not provided, by the deadline.
  • Photo must be submitted as a JPG, with a maximum size of 16MB; all other documents must be submitted as PDF; any other file type will not be accepted. Photos are not included in the review process, they are used for marketing after winners are selected.
  • For the purposes of this program, a “dependent” refers to a student for whom a Member or First Responder is the legal guardian.

Submission Process

The Scholarship Selection Committee will be comprised of a representative from CANASA Regional Councils across Canada, National Board members may also assist with the program. The Committee will blindly review applications, and select up to 6 scholarship recipients per year. Winners will be announced starting in April 2025.

The Scholarship Selection Committee will grade all submissions based on the chart below.

Personal Dedication and Commitment   Little to no evidence of personal dedication or commitment to community and/or safety.   Some evidence of dedication but lacks depth and consistency.   Adequate evidence of personal dedication and commitment to community and/or safety.   Strong evidence of personal dedication and sustained commitment to community and/or safety.   Outstanding evidence of unwavering dedication and significant contributions to community and/or safety.

CANASA Scholarship Written Application Section


A complete application will answer the two mandatory questions below as well as two optional questions.

We recommend you draft out your responses in word prior to starting the application.

Mandatory Questions (1000-word maximum per question):

1. Community engagement and public safety are important attributes for Canadian Security Association (CANASA). Please describe your Community Involvement (past and present).

2. What program are you enrolled in and what are your plans/goals for the future?

Optional Questions (please respond to two of the following with a 500-word maximum per question):

3. How does the first responder community work with the security industry and why is this important?

4. Describe a personal experience where electronic security played a vital role in the safeguarding of property or individuals.

5. Discuss the hurdles that first responders are faced with while maintaining security during emergency responses, crisis situations, and/or local events.

6. Define how advancements in technology have impacted security measures, and how technology continues to shape the security industry.

7. What role does social media play in the security industry? Discuss the advantages and disadvantages, and how cyber threats and online interactions change the way security may be implemented.

8. For children of first responders: can you share a story that highlights the impact of your parents’ work on your personal values or goals?
