Message from Chantal Bélanger,
President, CANASA Quebec Regional Council
March 24, 2020
Good afternoon everyone,
CANASA issued, on March 23, 2020, a statement from the Office of Private Security (BSP) which confirms the status of "essential service" for private security companies.
Clarification on the concept of essential service
The BSP comments: “If private security is an essential service, security providers are too… However, we must all show good faith. What is essential is the repair of existing equipment or the installation of new equipment which is really mandatory in the current context. ... It should never be forgotten that the goal is to avoid human contact as much as possible.
Please see the link below from the Government of Quebec for more information on companies recognized as essential services. Please note that on the Government of Quebec site, each of the categories listed on the home page opens with a click, for more details. We are also adding the link to download the CANASA model letter to identify security company personnel as persons whose work is recognized as "essential".
Finally, CANASA Quebec invites you to follow updates on www.canasa.org.
In addition to the information above, you will find links to the following subjects:
- Compliance with the rules issued by the Minister of Health and Social Services; see links on www.canasa.org.
- CNESST answers your questions on the rules surrounding personnel management.
- Directives from Premier Legault during his press conference at 1 p.m. on March 23, during which he mentioned that construction sites are closed except for emergency work, that certain important services such as: the telephone, computer networks, grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants with take-out and other similar services continue to be offered to the population during this COVID-19 crisis.
CANASA plays an important role like all citizens in this time of crisis. The health of our members, families, employees and suppliers is at the heart of our concerns.
Let us remain vigilant!
Chantal Bélanger, President
CANASA Quebec Regional Council
