York Regional Police Adopting Verified Alarm Response Program
Following the example set by other Ontario police services, effective June 01, 2020, York Regional Police will require verification of an alarm by means of one of the following criteria prior to dispatching officers:
- Two-way voice communication
- Video confirmation of a security breach
- Contact established with the premise owner or occupant who has confirmed an emergency
- Key-holder communication confirming unauthorized activation of the alarm
- Cross-zone activation with no answer at the premise and no keypad deactivation
- Panic alarm activation, no answer at premise and no keypad deactivation
This model will allow York Regional Police manage and deploy resources in a responsible and sustainable way moving forward.
